CYBER

AND SOCIETAL ISSUES

The digital transition is transforming our society and raising new challenges in terms of inclusion, equality, and diversity. Convinced that cybersecurity must be a driver for social as well as technological innovation, European Cyber Week is dedicating a specific day to the major societal issues of the sector, in a geopolitical context where digital security and sovereignty are becoming key concerns, and where every talent must be utilized. However, women remain underrepresented in the digital sector, and particularly in cybersecurity; at the same time, neurodivergent individuals, who have unique cognitive abilities, see their potential largely overlooked.

The Societal Issues Day aims to provide a space for exchange and co-construction, bringing together experts, academic representatives, industry leaders, and inspiring personalities committed to transforming the sector. This event will offer the opportunity to explore, through testimonies and feedback, essential topics for the future of our society.

Inclusion of Neurodivergent Profiles Building on the inclusion manifesto launched in 2022 and the inclusion guide published at the end of 2024, the Cyber Excellence Cluster will launch, on the occasion of the 10th edition of ECW, a unique program to support neurodivergent youths towards careers in digital technology, and particularly in cybersecurity, by guiding them from the end of their studies to their actual integration into employment. Indeed, the identification, integration, and promotion of neurodivergent talents have become major priorities. This ambassador program represents a true implementation of best practices and the construction of a strong bridge between these extraordinary profiles and professional organizations, thereby concretizing the commitments and work of the Cluster’s working group on this subject.

The Role of Women in Cybersecurity and AI The inclusion of women in the cybersecurity sector remains a significant challenge. Despite progress, women are still largely in the minority in this field. The same applies to artificial intelligence, which is transforming our daily lives. Women's representation is particularly low in this increasingly central technology that impacts the lives of both citizens and professionals. This imbalance hinders diversity and innovation, highlighting the urgent need to create a more inclusive environment that is representative of our society, and to accelerate the motivation and training of female talent. We are committed to showcasing inspiring role models from the field, addressing unconscious biases and stereotypes about tech skills, and discussing guidance and training. ECW 2025 will also be the occasion for the PEC to launch the 5th cohort of the “Cyber Cadettes,” a program supporting female students in cybersecurity with mentoring and training since 2021!
