ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
NB. Have your individual iADH membership number* handy if you wish to enter the awards categories!
*Become an iADH individual member online at www.iadh.org. If you are a member of a paid-up national association belonging to iADH, your individual Membership Number is available on request by email to: membership@iadh.org This process may take up to two weeks. Be prepared!
- Abstracts must be original, and at time of abstract submission should not have been published in a peer review journal or presented at an international conference.
- All abstracts should be approved by all authors before submission.
- All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the iADH Scientific Committee who will make the final decision on acceptance of the abstract after peer review using agreed, pre-established criteria.
- The corresponding author will receive all communication and is responsible for informing the other authors of the status of the abstract.
- The corresponding author will be notified of the receipt of the abstract and assigned an abstract number by the organisers. Please refer to this abstract number in all correspondence.
- The iADH Scientific Committee reserves the right to allocate abstracts into the presentation sessions as they see fit, in accordance with the overall program objectives.
- The corresponding author will be informed by email no later than the 9th of May 2022 as to the mode of presentation (oral or poster), if the abstract is accepted.
- The presenting author must pay their registration fees no later than the 25th of May 2022. If registration is not received by this date, the abstract will be removed from the programme and will not appear in the abstract supplement.
- If the original presenting author is unable to present the abstract, it is the corresponding author’s responsibility to ensure that one of the co-authors takes over the presentation. Any change of the presenting author needs to be communicated in writing to the iADH Congress Scientific Committee by the 25th of May 2022.
- To withdraw an abstract, please contact the Congress Secretariat, info@iadh2022.org no later than the 6th of April 2022.
- The submitted abstracts become the property of iADH. All authors agree to the abstract being placed on the iADH website under a Creative Commons Licence (see https://creativecommons.org/).
- Changes to abstracts are not permitted after the submission deadline.
- A researcher can co-author up to three submitted abstracts but can only be the presenting author for a maximum of two presentations.
- A declaration of potential conflicts of interests must be submitted on behalf of, and with the knowledge of, all authors by the corresponding author. Abstracts will not be accepted without this form.
- Corresponding authors must give details of ethical approval where appropriate.
- Corresponding authors must give details of patient consent for case reports and photos.
Scope of abstract submissions
Abstracts are invited on the theme of Special Care Dentistry (SCD).
Within the iADH definition, SCD concerns those individuals with an activity restriction, a health condition and/or a disability that directly or indirectly affects their oral health, within the personal and environmental context of that individual. This population may include patients of all ages, disabled persons, medically compromised patients, mental health patients, patients with dental fear, frail older persons, prison populations, refugees, homeless persons, etc.
Abstracts in relation to the iADH 2022 Paris theme of “Quality Matters… ensuring equitable health outcomes’ will be favoured.
Submissions are encouraged both from dentists and the wider SCD team – physicians, speech therapists, hygienists, nurses, educators…
Abstracts may be submitted for the following categories:
- Clinical research
- Public health or social sciences research
- Basic or biological sciences research
- Education research
- Case studies
The iADH Scientific Committee reserves the right to re-attribute the abstract to a different category after evaluation.
Presentation Formats
Both oral and poster communications will be presented at iADH 2022 Paris.
Authors can express a preference for format on submission but the final decision on presentation type will be made by the iADH Scientific Committee.
Awards competition
Authors should indicate on the form if they do NOT wish for their abstract to be considered for the IADH research competitions.
All authors wishing for their work to be considered for the iADH Awards competition must:
- Be a member of iADH and provide their individual iADH Membership number (available to all paid-up iADH members on request by email to membership@iadh.org).
- State whether they will be 36 years or younger on the 23rd Aug 2022 (for consideration for the young researcher prize where appropriate).
ABSTRACT STRUCTURE
- Authors’ full names, affiliations and emails.
Complete full names of all authors, with the family NAME in capitals and the given names in the lower case. The name of the presenting author should be marked by a star*. The name of the corresponding author should be underlined. Maximum 10 authors.
Example: Presenting AUTHOR*(1), Second AUTHOR (2), Third AUTHOR (2), Fourth Corresponding AUTHOR (3).
Complete Authors Affiliation following this example:
(1) School of Dentistry, Town, Country, (2) Biostatistical Centre, Town, Country, (3) Dental practice, Town, Country.
List all authors’ email addresses in the order the authors appear above.
The title must give a clear indication of the content and be a maximum of 25 words.
The first letter of the first word should be in capitals and rest of title in lower case.
Abstracts must be submitted in English. Authors who have little experience of scientific writing in English are strongly recommended to consult someone proficient in scientific English when preparing the abstract and before submission.
Abstracts must use correct grammar and punctuation.
Table and figures in abstracts are not permitted.
Abstracts should not include references or abbreviations (unless defined).
The word limit is no more than 300 words.
Title, authors and affiliation details are excluded from the word count.
Abstracts pertaining to original research should be formatted as follows:
Aim(s): should be clearly stated.
Methods: should indicate where, when and among whom your data were gathered and give details of sample selection and size, randomization and why the sample can or cannot be seen as representative of the population studied. Where applicable control groups, consent, ethical approval and statistical tests used must be mentioned. Detail the response rate(s), give the size of the group or groups and account for any drop outs from the original number(s). Give the setting and procedures, including the nature of any interventions, and the main outcome measures.
Results: should give the most important findings and always include both numbers and percentages e.g. 71 (50%) were female.
Conclusions: should highlight the most important finding(s) and be based on the observed results.
Abstracts pertaining to case reports should be formatted as follows:

Conclusions
- Funding body and Acknowledgements.
Any funding body should be named and included in the last line of the abstract.
Academic support or help provided by other people that are not authors should be indicated under Acknowledgements.
Ethical approval:
The authors declare that appropriate ethical approval has been received for the research presented here and that proof of ethical approval can be produced on request.
OR
The authors declare that ethical approval is NOT required for the research presented here and can justify this position (e.g. in-vitro study; case report; service audit, etc…).
Case reports and patient images:
The authors declare that written consent has been received from patients for the publication of case reports and for the use of patient images, including publication online and in the public domain. Proof of consent must be produced on request. Authors are reminded that abstracts will be placed on the iADH website under a Creative Commons Licence (see https://creativecommons.org/).
OR
The authors declare that they will not use patient case reports or images in their abstract or presentation.
Conflict of Interest:
The corresponding author declares on behalf of all authors that they have no conflict of interest.
OR
Potential conflicts of interest are declared and detailed.
